Dr. Munik Shrestha is a postdoctoral researcher who currently works with Dr. Sam Scarpino at the Emergent Epidemics Lab and the Marine Science Center in Northeastern University. He is interested broadly in algorithms for complex systems, with expertise in applying contagion models in networks to quantify stability of complex systems. His recent work includes applying network tools to quantify the robustness of the neonatal intensive care unit transfers, develop message-passing algorithms for estimating statistics of epidemics in time and predict the circumstances for the amplification of financial contagion due to overlapping portfolios. Dr. Shrestha received his PhD in Physics from University of New Mexico while working on his dissertation at Santa Fe Institute as a graduate fellow, and has a dual Bachelors degree in Physics and Economics from Haverford College.
