Saumitra is a PhD student working with Professor Esteban Moro in the Social Urban Networks Lab (SUNLab). His research focuses on understanding human behavior in urban environments using large-scale smartphone behavioral data, leveraging tools from computational social science and network science to inform better policy design in cities.

Saumitra's past work spans a variety of disciplines, with a particular emphasis on network science. He has explored applications in areas such as dynamical processes on networks, computational biology, financial systems, and even culinary science.

Before joining NetSI, Saumitra was a Lagrange Fellow at the ISI Foundation in Turin, Italy, where he collaborated with UNICEF to mitigate biases in behavioral data used for displacement monitoring in natural disaster management.

Saumitra has also held research positions at the Institute of Mathematical Sciences and the Department of Scientific Computing, Modeling, and Simulation (SCMS) at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) in India. He holds a Master’s degree in Mathematical Modeling and Simulation from SCMS-SPPU.
