NetSI PhD student Alyssa Smith awarded 2023 NSF Graduate Research Fellowship
Congratulations to Alyssa Smith on being awarded a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship (GRFP)! The GRFP is awarded annually to outstanding graduate students in STEM disciplines who show promise for significant contributions to scientific innovation and instruction.
Alyssa’s research examines the roles of algorithmic curation and user choice in content, primarily by studying user interactions on Twitter. A data scientist and engineer, Alyssa also works to improve access to social media data for scientific research. She is co-advised by Professor Brooke Welles and Professor David Lazer.
Alyssa will receive a three-year annual stipend and access to NSF-supported professional development opportunities.
