**This talk has been rescheduled- new date to be announced**

Social K-H Networks were originally introduced as part of Dr Hamed's dissertation. Such models have proven promising in monitoring and mining social media. Specifically, the networks were used as a theoretical model that offered a computational platform for enabling the following a) the discovery of side-effects when intaking two drugs together or consuming food while being under medication of a given drug, b) Mining and measuring social media public awareness of natural phenomena such as climate change, and c) the ranking of social media users based on their contributions not their fame. Dr. Hamed will focus his presentation on both the knowledge discovery and the ranking aspects that the networks have enabled.

About the speaker
Dr. Hamed's research is concerned with investigating the social phenomena exhibited on social media platforms (e.g., Twitter). He has contributed new network models and algorithms to generate early warning alerts for drug-side effects by mining billions of tweets. He is currently working on extending the scope of his algorithms to discover novel links that better explain the relationship between food quality and health issues. Dr. Hamed is also leading a new social media project that ranks users based on their posting and tweeting contributions, and regardless of who they are. Such a project will play a significant role in suppressing the misinformation and the fake news spread on social media.
