What does it mean to study the hidden patterns that shape our connected world?

In this video, two current students in Northeastern University's Master of Science in Complex Network Analysis program share their experiences exploring the science of networks, while Program Director Professor Brennan Klein discusses the program's unique interdisciplinary approach and the opportunities it creates for students.

The Master of Science in Complex Network Analysis provides students with a strong foundation in the theory, methods, and applications of network science. Students develop expertise in analyzing complex systems and uncovering patterns of connections that influence nearly every aspect of modern life—from social interactions and information flows to transportation systems, public health, economics, and technology.

Students build a strong foundation in complex network analysis and complement their studies with domain-specific coursework in one of four concentrations:

  • Complex Biological Networks — College of Science
  • Complex Social Systems — College of Social Sciences and Humanities
  • Economic and Technological Networks — Khoury College of Computer Sciences
  • Population Health Dynamics — Bouvé College of Health Sciences

In addition to rigorous coursework, students are offered research-based, experiential learning opportunities through collaborations with faculty, research labs, industry and interdisciplinary projects, allowing them to apply network science methods to real-world challenges.

Hear directly from our students about their academic journeys, research experiences, and career aspirations, and learn from Professor Klein how the program provides graduates the conceptual and analytical skills needed to understand and solve problems in an increasingly interconnected world.
